“Recognizing the need is the primary condition for design.”

Charles Eames

Revamp is a solution to all the remodeling and design concerns of homeowners. On the site, customers have access to personalized service where they are able to see what their space COULD look like with a few quick changes. Revamp is a one stop shop to hear advice from expert designers, purchase items from renowned brands, and finally get the space you have always wanted. Revamp targets the younger generation of homeowners, eager to start new projects. 92% of younger homeowners say they plan to remodel soon. The customer will access all materials and services through our website. Revamp will partner with companies like CB2, IKEA, Room & Board, and local hardware stores to provide all items necessary for a successful remodel. Costs will add up from salaries, legal and delivery fees, technology maintenance, marketing, and partnership fees. Revamp will collect revenue from in site advertising from places like HGTV or companies looking to sell their products on Revamp. A premium option will also be offered to customers which includes, access to a more customized experience, free shipping, and access to more of the warehouse. Revamp will be an accessible, customizable place to go for fresh, trendy design that peaks the interest of every homeowner.

Research is crucial for the success of any startup. I began my research with conversation. I discussed the outline of Revamp with friends, family, experts of design, non experts of design, even strangers. A basic conversation like this is, in my opinion, the best form of research. By going to the customer, you are able to gain insight on your idea from all perspectives. Then I turned to google, to search up any questions that had risen from these conversations. I searched homeowner statistics, style trends, accessibility of web service, and partnership opportunities. Most importantly, I researched my competitors. How could I make my company better? What is more appealing about my process? Without research, my idea would not thrive. The input of others is important to take into account when trying anything new, especially a business venture like this.

After researching, I found that 90% of American households want to remodel their homes, and 40% of them would do so in the next two years. Interestingly, I found that only 17% of people who remodel are doing in order to sell their property. This is important because it means that most Americans are fixing their house to stay in it. From this research, I developed my overall question: Do you want your dream house, but don’t know where to start?

Step 1: Upload

The customer begins by uploading images of the space or spaces they want to “revamp.” Then they will be asked to fill out a questionnaire on the site. The purpose of the survey is to determine the customer’s preferences and tastes. The expert designers will use the answers to create a space tailored to the customer’s exact style choices.

Step 2 : Personalize

At this point, the designers have uploaded 3-5 options of ways the customer could modify or renovate their space. The exciting add-on to step two is that customers also have the option to design their own space. By utilizing the Revamp warehouse, customers can drag, place, color, and design all aspects of their space. For instance, they can try out a chair they like from IKEA in the left corner, or move their bed to the other side of the room, all in an online setting.

Step 3 : Browse

During this step, customers have direct access to purchase any item they need to redesign their space. For example, let’s say I needed to paint my bathroom. I could buy all the supplies needed on the Revamp site, even the exact paint color the designers chose for me in step 2. I also have the option to purchase any furniture I liked from the warehouse! Step 3 has various options to choose from including a way to price compare, so customers can find the best value for their home. All of these items would be shipped to the front door. Step 3 makes it easy for customers to get what they need without any hassle.

Step 4: Begin

Now it is time to begin on those projects you have always wanted to complete, but didn’t know where to start. Revamp staff is always at your service to answer any questions that arise during your renovation process!

    Hello Allison,
I am very impressed with your startup idea and I really do believe that there is a great demand for such a service. I admire how you have broken down the steps so that they are simple and easy to follow, I still have some few questions that I hope you can answer:

How long will it take for customers to receive their 3-5 modified options? a couple of hours or days?

Are you able to interact with others on the website? maybe look at others home transformations as inspiration?

When you are done with the designing process are you able to rate the interior designers?

Will you have builders or handymen on the website that costumers could hire to help them setup?

Hey, I really like this project, I’m taking Architecture as a GOA course and so I can relate to this a lot, and honestly your startup idea is great. I love how everything is detailed and you’ve explained a lot of things and thought of everything necessary.

I really like the idea of this project, and I think it would be great if you had other houses that people could look at and they could pick out what they want to use.
